Applied Kinesiology

Kinesiology itself is the study of muscle function. Applied kinesiology is using muscles to identify any dysfunction in your body. Every muscle has a specific nerve, organ, emotion, and nutritional component. So through muscle testing, we can understand and find the specific cause of which parts of your body that is not functioning correctly. Since, nerves innervate muscles we test muscles by having you resist just two pounds of pressure while we touch specific points on the body in order to get direct access to the brain. Based on whether you can hold that resistance or not is how we decide how to treat it.

The Chiropractic Paradigm

The body is a self-healing organism; it has the ability to heal itself without drugs and surgery. For instance, if you cut your arm, the body can heal the cut without band-aids or anti-biotics. Your body has within it an inborn ability to heal itself; in fact all living things have the ability to heal themselves naturally. So, why doesn’t it? Sometimes, we do not give our body enough time to heal on its own and the actual cause of the problem is still present interfering with the healing process. Most patients, who develop health challenges, search for a pill or a quick fix to relieve their discomfort instead of locating the cause of the problem and removing the cause. By removing the actual cause it allows our body an opportunity to heal naturally. For example, infections are not a lack of anti-biotics in our blood stream; they are caused by a suppressed immune system. Why is your immune system suppressed? Poor diet, no exercise, emotional stress, or maybe nerve interference from a structural trauma. Chiropractors look to find out why the body is not healing itself like it should and succeeds to remove that interference.

Your Master Controller

The central nervous system (your brain and spinal cord) is responsible for the function of everything in your body. We know our body is a self-healing organism. And, it is responsible for the healing in our body. It attains to coordinate the function of every cell, tissue and organ in our body in perfect harmony. We also know that true health is not how we feel. A person could have cancer or heart disease and feel great yet obviously be in very poor health. We know that true health is our body functioning at 100%, 100% of the time. It is important to make the connection that health is optimal function and our nervous system controls that function. Therefore, in order to have true health, your central nervous system must be able to control and coordinate the function of every cell, tissue, and organ without interference. The brain and spinal cord are connected to every cell, tissue and organ via our spinal nerve system. It is composed of three types of nerves. Sensory nerves: These nerves tell our brain what is happening in our internal and external environment. They are also what perceive pain. It comprises only 10% of these nerves. Motor nerves: They control and coordinate all of our muscles. They comprise about 40% of the nerves. Autonomic nerves: They control and coordinate our organs, blood vessels, and glands. They make up the other 40% of our nerves. Think about it. What would happen to your health if any part of your nervous system were to be interfered with and not function correctly?

Subluxations - "The Silent Killer"

Your Central Nervous System (brain and spinal cord) is responsible for sending messages to every cell, tissue and organ system in your body. This communication is made possible by your spinal neurological network. This communication network is in charge of every function in your body and determines whether you enjoy good health or disease. It is so important that nature builds armor around it, your skull and spinal column. Even with this protection, our nervous system can experience interference, injury, or disturbances caused by physical, chemical, or emotional stress. We call this damage to our nervous system a Subluxation. Subluxations are almost always the silent beginnings of dis-ease. Only chiropractors are trained to diagnose and treat Subluxations. Your examinations will determine if you have one or multiple Subluxations in your spinal neurological network. This could be potentially a very serious threat because they have devastating effects on your continued overall health and well-being. Our primary goal is to detect and correct the Subluxations that are interfering with your nervous system’s full potential. We then educate our patients in preventing the cause of Subluxations so they do not return. Not realizing that there may be a problem without any symptoms is the reason why some people who appear perfectly healthy, young athletes even, can drop dead of a heart attack without any warning signs. Getting checked for these silent killers in our office can in some cases save lives and in ALL cases improve the quality of life.

Your First Visit

Your first visit is a computerized scan of your nervous system. We need to see how well you are functioning regardless of your symptoms. Symptoms can be a very bad thing because they often show in late stage disease. But, they are also a healthy thing like when you have a fever you know that your body is naturally heating the bacteria or virus in order to kill it. A typical fever is a true sign of a healthy immune system. It is when we go suppressing this natural function, like with a fever reducer that we interfere with healing. We have top of the line technology called the Insight Mellenium Subluxation Station that is a computerized test that can evaluate the degree of dysfunction within your spinal cord and/or nervous system. This computerized testing gives us a whole lot of information about you in a non-invasive way. Through Infrared Thermography we can roll our scanner up your back to measure the different temperatures and heat and how your nerves are controlling that temperature and heat. It allows us to see how well the Autonomic nervous system is functioning – the part of your nervous system that controls the blood vessels, glands, and organs. In addition, it performs Surface-EMG (electromyography) by measuring the electrical activity of each individual muscle surrounding the spinal column. We can see level by level whether or not your nerves are giving the right signal to your muscles. Using the printed color graphs which represent the degree of severity, we can see level by level what parts of the body that is being affected and not functioning properly. As you know muscles are very important in maintaining our spine and allowing us to be pain free. With this scan we can get an objective view of whether your nervous system is functioning properly or not. We then evaluate and discuss your lifestyle habits so that we can come up a customized care plan for you. After care, we can follow up with re-exams to see if we are making progress or if we need to re-evaluate our approach.

Your Second Visit

Depending on your history or age we may need to perform full spine x-rays so that we may see the shape of your spinal column and the health of your bones. This also gives us important information on what style of adjusting we need to provide to your body. And, what types of exercise would be beneficial to correct problems in your spine. You will then receive your first adjustment. You will also given a seven day diet sheet and symptom survey to take home and fill out, so that we can understand your nutritional lifestyle habits. You will bring these for your next visit.

Your Third Visit - Nutritional / Chemical Evaluation and Management

First you will get adjusted. Then we will begin muscle testing to determine what types of chemical toxins you have been exposed to, food/environmental allergies, viruses, bacterias, parasites, nutritional deficiencies, etc... We may then recommend certain whole food nutritional supplements, herbal remedies or homeopathics to rid your body of toxins so that it may begin to heal the damage. We then give you a healthy diet plan to read and evaluate so that you can enhance this healing process, maintain that healing and continue to improve on the function of your system . After these three visits, you will have all the tools to begin to receive true wellness. After these visits, we will treat all of your physical and emotional disturbances through adjustments, while you are working on removing the chemical/environmental toxins at home. Since there is no process that does not require time, we will continue this regime usually weekly for a period determined by the severity of your case, and then re-evaluate. After wellness is achieved, we recommend that you come in to our office AT LEAST every three months to continue to maintain and improve your health.
